For the past year I have started digging into all types of music trying to borden my tastes more than I have in the past. During this time I followed various music sites along with spending some time hanging out at various music festival's forums to find new bands and get an idea of what others' were thinking. While doing this though I came across the bias side that they all had.
Personally I get turned off when I read a review of someone saying that its not mainstream or that it's too mainstream (keeping it at a simple argument level). I prefer to hear reasoning's behind why the release was bad whether its because the lead singers voice/choice in lyrics or if it is just because they did not come up with a catchy tune.
As time moves along I will be looking at posting a few different types of reviews on new releases. Upon 1st listen will be my initial thoughts on a recently released CD. I am going to look at doing this type of review within 2 weeks from the original release date. A second type of new review I am going to do is Under the Radar. This will be for albums that I might of missed or passed on due to other recent releases or just a release that I was completely not-in-the-know about.
For filler I am going to occasionally post another type of listing titled Upon further listen. This type of review will be an all encompassing type. I am going to mainly use it for releases that I have brought back because the music has grown on me in some fashion. At the same time I could use this time to time to reference a classic album that has rekindled my interest for some reason or just being a release from an artist I am just starting to check into that has influenced a artist that I am into.
I am curious to see how well this gets off the ground so words of encouragement, etc are greatly appreciated. Right now I am working on going through '08 releases to get my list for the year. I will have something posted here by X-mas if not sooner for this. At the start of '09 I plan on starting with a clear slate and getting back to normal listening habits. Upon my 1st review I will post the 10 point grading scale I will be using.
